Book Swap #4 - 2BeUva

Be, of 2BeUva.Etsy.com, sent this journal for our travel-themed book swap. The covers are Be's original artwrok that she printed on a Chief 17 offset press using three plates from her drawings, drawing each layer of colour by hand. These images depict Car-Person, a cartoon character that she made into a movie, exploring the feeling one gets when one drives for a while and becomes "one" with the car (watch Car-Person on Be's blog).

This is a hardcover journal and the pages are upcycled/recycled papers salvaged from her bindery and print shop jobs; about half the pages have hand-drawn lines, and the rest are blank.

Book Swap #4 - PrairiePeasant

Laura, of PrairiePeasant.Etsy.com, says that Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba is one of her favorite places to visit so she made this book for our travel book swap. The window on the front features a photograph of a bear printed on a transparency. Laura says she has seen a bear every time she has visited the park - and sometimes too closely!

This is a hardcover Coptic bound journal made with reclaimed materials: the covers are reclaimed bookboard covered with handmade paper, the pages are cut from printers' end rolls, and a topographical map of the park is used to wrap each signature. She also made pockets to hold a postcard and tag made with images from park brochures. There is also a little envelope containing some Canadian stamps: a red fox stamp, the Manitoba coat of arms, and a bookbinding stamp.

Book Swap #4 - MyHandboundBooks

This suitcase book was made for the swap by Rhonda of MyHandboundBooks. This is a hardcover case bound book covered with brown suede leather and embellished with raised areas to resemble pockets, and decorated with bits of ephemera to suggest a well-traveled bag.

Most of the pages are blank parchment text paper, with parts of a world map cut up for the centre spread of each section.

Check out MyHandboundBooks.Etsy.com for more of Rhonda's books.

Book Swap #4 - Jellygnite

The next book to showcase from our swap is this brown paper package, made by Ali of Jellygnite. It is made using an accordion structure with stitched signatures inside and all the paper and card has been upcycled.

Ali says she loves the aesthetics of stamps and packages and the anticipation of waiting for a parcel to arrive. The travel theme is reflected in the postage concept since there are parcels and letters and stamps traveling around the world all the time.

You can see more of Ali's books at Jellygnite.Etsy.com.

Book Swap #4 - Kurberry

Alison, of Kurberry.Etsy.com sent this fresh and airy book for our most recent book swap. Alison is currently living in Seattle for work, displaced from her usual home in Italy and all her usual papers and supplies. So for her, the travel theme is applied even as a result of the conditions under which the book was created.

The colours and shapes are also reminiscent of summer vacations at the beach, blue skies, sea green oceans, and sails in the distance! This is a hardcover album with decorative papers and book cloth on the spine. The binding is a pearl dash sewing through the spine.

Check out more of her work in her Esty shop, Kurberry.Etsy.com.
